The floors need a sweep? No problem. Have to run the vacuum? No big deal. Time to mop the floors? I would rather go fold three loads of laundry where every single shirt is inside-out and there are no matching socks.
Traditional mopping requires the agonizing use of a mop, a bucket, and multiple rounds of warm, soapy, dirty water. We’re talking about a lot of moving pieces and I always felt like I was making more of a mess than cleaning up! Thankfully, major mop advancements have made the tedious floor cleaning task more enjoyable!
I have a Bissell Steam Mop Hard Floor Cleaner and I cannot say enough good things about it. If you like the smell and feel of freshly ironed clothes, then you will LOVE this product. Just fill up the small tank with water, pop on a mop pad (say that ten times fast) and you're ready to go. The reusable microfiber mop pads go right into the washing machine when I’m done which is obviously great for the environment. The system also utilizes a calcium water filter which is replaceable. So many products, like the Swiffer, feel like they were made to be disposable and I love that they built this product to last. I also love products that can tackle more than one task like the Cuisinart 5 in 1 Griddler which I gave a solid 4 stars!
The product has a 360 degree swivel mop head that easily glides under my kitchen chairs and into corners. It feels like you’re getting a good, deep clean without having to drag out a bucket and mop. It’s also chemical free so I can use it around my kids. It cleans with only the steam from the filtered water in the tank. This means it’s safe on virtually all sealed hard surfaces including laminate, marble, ceramic, vinyl and granite. I didn't include hard wood on this list intentionally. Most of the information I read stated that even if the hard wood is sealed, small scratches can allow the water to damage the wood.
With a price tag of $68 on Amazon, I definitely feel like this product is worth the money. It’s eco-friendly, budget friendly and built to be used for the long haul. It has a 4 star review on almost every ranking site and most people love the ease of use, the size (for use and storage), and the ease of assembly. The unit does stand upright on its own but I find myself concerned that it might tip over. Those who have returned the product indicate unhappiness with the level of moisture residue or an extremely high level of expectation that the product would work as well as professional steam cleaners.
Overall, the Bissell Steam Mop Hard Floor Cleaner is easy to use and effective at cleaning up dirt and grime on hard surfaces. (Think yesterday’s oatmeal or today’s orange juice.) It comes with a 1 year limited warranty and is only 8.4 pounds. The mop pads are easy to put on and take off and they don’t fall off while you’re running the steamer. It’s a great product for anyone looking for a child-safe, allergy safe, and eco-friendly mopping alternative that is also very affordable.
